Trohadia

Trohadia

These are the traditional Skyrian shoes which were worn by ship and goat herders. They resemble elaborate sandals. Traditionally they were made from leather (mostly cow), however, for durability reasons, the soles nowadays are made from used car tyres.

For this reason, ‘Trohadia’ were nicknamed “Pirelli”.  Traditionally they were handmade within ones home by the man of the family.  He would make them for himself and his sons. Today, one can find them at Skyros’ Market, made from local artisans.
